Now: App That Sorts Instagram Photos To Find The Hotspots In Your Town

As it turns out, Instagram is more useful than we may have ever thought. Not only do we take and post Instagram photos for the obvious reasons, but now a new purpose for all those pictures has evolved. If you want to know what is happening in your city, or if you are visiting a new city and you want to know where the hotspots are, how do you find out?

You could of course check one of the many review sites like Yelp, you could check on Twitter, or you could even ask your Facebook friends for advice. However, if you want to see what those places look like in real time, and if you want a visual of what you’ll experience if you go there, you might want to check out a new app called Now.

Now basically uses Instagram’s API to sort real time photos for you to see based on the search terms you put in. Any Instagram photos that are geotagged are included in the search. The team at Now hand curates the Instagram photos and sorts them into nice and neat lists for your viewing pleasure.

I can see this app being helpful not only when you are visiting a new city, but also if you want to rediscover the city you currently live in. When you see Instagram photos of the places you want to visit, you get the information in a much more personal way. As you know, looking at Instagram photos of a restaurant, for example, is a completely different experience than viewing photos on the restaurant website.

As you can see in the pictures, in addition to using the Instagram API to sort the photos, this app also taps into Google maps.
