For a while now, there has been a “let’s play” revolution going on over at YouTube. If you don’t know what that is all about, I would be more than happy to tell you. It’s quite simple really. There are basically a lot of people who play games while commentating at the same time. They grow their subscriber base by just doing that. This whole movement is about to get a whole lot more exciting now that the new xRec iPhone app has just been released.
The “Let’s Play” movement is making a whole lot of gamers money just by them playing games. Some have raked up an insane followings that resemble that of a famous artist. It’s not uncommon that some people can accumulate hundreds of thousands of views on a video in just 24 hours. But so far, they have just been able to record on their computers and not their mobile devices without using a whole lot of complicated camera setups and whatnot. But supposedly the new xRec iPhone app is going to change all that in a jiffy.
xRec enables screen capturing on an iPhone, which is something that was previously not possibly without jailbreaking it. I am not very familiar with what applications are available on the Android etc., but for the iPhone, the xRec is going to set off a revolution since there has so far not been an app available that does this natively. Imagine being a gamer who puts up YouTube clips every day. Now you will be able to kick back on your couch, record a couple of gaming sessions, and just upload it all to your YouTube channel without breaking a sweat.
If you want to add commentating to them, you just have to load your gaming sessions into whatever editing application you have on the iPhone and add commentating in post-production before you upload the video itself. The xRec app is certainly going to become a huge help for a lot of people who previously couldn’t use their iPhone for anything other than recording video the ordinary way. xRec was made available on the 20th of July, and it will set you back a geeky $1.99 over at the App Store. If you’re looking to record your screen on your iPhone, and you don’t want to jailbreak it, the xRec app is exactly what you need.
