This Is What A Modern Marketing Professional Looks Like [Infographic]

The definition of ‘marketing’ today is miles away from what that word meant a decade ago. It’s one of the fastest changing fields as marketing attempts to keep up in the fast-paced world of technology and social media. Veteran marketing professionals have watched these changes happen firsthand, and I’d love to have a conversation with one of them about what that shift was like. There is a way to explain it which makes a lot of sense, and that’s what this infographic tries to illustrate.

People often refer to themselves as being either predominately right-brained or left-brained. In the old days, you could get away with being a successful marketer by just using the right side of your brain. Marketing professionals were all about creativity and coming up with the next big campaign idea.

These days it’s different. Although it’s easy to favor the right or left side of your brain, in order to be a successful marketer, you really have to embrace both. Today’s marketing professional is part artist and part scientist. But why is that? The answer lies in technology, and how it relates to the evolution of marketing.

These days, it’s all about tracking data, statistics, analytics and ROI. With the technology available, there are more ways to track these numbers than ever before. Not only does a marketer have to be comfortable tracking these things, he or she also has to become a master of interpreting those numbers to optimize success.

However, the creative side of a marketing professional is still what creates something that will catch people’s attention in this noisy world where marketers are constantly competing for our attention. The most successful marketing professionals today will be able to flip back and forth easily between the creative and analytical sides of their brains. Do you agree with this theory?
