We all waste a little time at work, right? It doesn’t matter if you work from home or in a corporate setting. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. Sometimes taking five or ten minutes here or there to get our minds off what we’re doing can give us a jolt of creativity and a new perspective. But how much time do we really waste at work, and what are the most common time wasters? You might be surprised by the answers. This is a list of the 10 biggest workday time wasters.
I found an article on Business Insider that has some pretty funny stats about wasting time at work. According to that article, checking email can waste up to 50% of your day, but that’s not the funny part. The funny part is that 54% of women and 46% of men admitted to going into the bathroom at work to check Facebook daily.
It also says that when young people stay late at work, chances are, they aren’t getting much work done during that time. They are only staying late because they feel they are expected to be there after normal business hours. This infographic called Biggest Workplace Time Wasters by Yast shows what they found to be the 10 most popular things we do during the workday to waste time.
I can’t say I’m really surprised by any of these, and if someone is a hard worker, I don’t know why some of them are a bad thing. For example, if someone is working hard and going above and beyond, shouldn’t that person be allowed to surf the net and do some online shopping during the holidays? I mean, we are all adults here. On the other hand, I can understand that time spent fixing other people’s mistakes and attending inefficient meetings is just straight up wasted time. Enjoy!
