This year, here in the States, February 20th is President’s Day. For the most part, it’s one of those holidays that goes unnoticed. It was originally a day set aside to honor the American presidents, specifically George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. There is one group of people who won’t be letting President’s Day slip by this year unrecognized. They are the ones who have been working feverishly on this tower at Ford’s Theatre Center for Education and Leadership in Washington.
They’ve constructed a 34-feet (almost 11 meters) tall book tower with over 15,000 books about Abraham Lincoln. It’s all part of an exhibit to celebrate President’s Day. Right across the street from this theatre is the actual house where President Lincoln died. The book tower is shaped like a cylinder, and it is beautifully placed right in the middle of a spiral staircase which is in the lobby of the theatre. It will also be a great promotional tool for the museum close by which is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln history.
You can see people on ladders using glue to place each book on this structure in just the right place. That looks like a fun project! To see another great book design, click over to see this front desk in a library created from recycled books.
