Art Made From A Human Skeleton – Photography Inspiration

Photographer Francois Robert found a wired together human skeleton, used in a science class at a school, at an auction sale. Since he’s always loved skeletons, he bought it, but then decided he needed bones that weren’t wired together for his plan. Many years passed…

Then he found a box of 206 human bones online. He traded his original bones for that box of bones and now he was all set. He spent hundreds of hours arranging these bones into shapes, each 5 or 6 feet wide. He meticulously worked, on his knees, to get just the right bones in just the right place for this series of photography. Motivated by death and fear, he named the collection, “Stop the Violence.” You’ll see the theme is a combination of weapons and religion, typically the tools used in war.

Each image is a symbol of war or violence, such as a gun or a tank, and I wanted to show that sadly the human skeleton is often all that remains from such acts of violence. This is what you are left with after war – a body count. The bones are something left behind, a form of memory, I try to treat that person on my studio floor with respect.
