Badass Spiders Made From TSA Confiscated Scissors

If you travel much by airplane, you’ve probably seen the big buckets of items confiscated at the airport security checkpoints. Last month when I was at the airport in Toronto, I was blown away by the huge plastic container that was almost as tall as me filled with everything from used toothpaste containers to razor blades. I wonder what happens to all that stuff. Do you think they just throw it all in the garbage?

Christopher Locke decided to do something creative with some of the things security takes from passengers, specifically the pairs of scissors. These spiders below are made from pairs of scissors confiscated by the TSA at airport security checkpoints. He basically took the scissors apart, bent them, and then welded them back together to make spiders.

According to Heartless Machine, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) retrieves over 8 million things from passengers each year. That statistic was from a few years ago, so my guess is that the number is much higher now. In the case of scissors, the blades have to be less than four inches to be allowed on the plane. But then again, there are always exceptions to the rule. The security officials are allowed to take anything they feel is a threat, regardless.

If you would like to learn how to create your own scissors spider sculptures, click on over to Heartless Machine to read exactly how Christopher did it. You also have the option of purchasing one if you don’t want to make your own. I wonder if these scissors spider sculptures would be allowed on the airplane. Probably not, right? Hmm…
