Chain Art: Mind Blowing Welded Human Portraits

It’s hard not to be impressed when people create something with such precision that you can’t even fathom the technique that they must have used in order to put together their work of art. Sometimes it’s even hard to see that it was created by someone’s dedication and hands. It’s during those times that you know the art speaks a universal language, since no matter what nationality you are, you will always see the beauty in it. As an artist, it’s of course a long shot to think everyone walking on this blue planet will know exactly why you created a specific art piece; however, the way an artist usually looks at, it will always be the same. It will always be their own, and that’s why art is universal.

When I stumbled over the work of Korean artist Yeong-Deok Seo, I was just amazed by the detail and the skills it must have taken to put these works of art together. They are all made out of different kinds of chains, and they are carefully welded together to form mind blowing portraits of the human body in one way or another. Each link is carefully laid to rest on the ones around it, and then welded into the mesmerizing shape of the human body.

How can you not be impressed by such craftsmanship? Not only are the sculptures truly intriguing to look at, but if you ever had the time, I am sure you could follow the beginning of the link all through the sculptures themselves and follow every line and shape of the human body. Even though these pieces of art are incredibly impressive, the names for these pieces of are far from joyful and happy. They actually portray the agony of the diseases we humans contract, and thus the material symbolizes the roughness of what a disease can do to human flesh. It’s mesmerizing, wouldn’t you say?
