Chalkboard Pad: A Nostalgic Design Inspired By The New iPad

I remember back when Apple announced that their next big product launch was going to be called the “iPad.” Immediately everyone started making fun of that name, and all kinds of product spoofs immediately hit the Internet. We all giggled and wondered why Apple picked such a lame name. Now, a few years later, we don’t even think about it anymore. That product has been infused into our homes and our brains, and nobody thinks it’s a strange name. Even if you aren’t an Apple fan, you have to admit that is brilliant marketing.

If you want to get the new iPad but you aren’t quite ready to make that kind of investment yet, I have another option for you to consider. It will cost a lot less money and probably draw the same amount of attention. It’s a called the chalkboard pad, and if you click on these pictures below to supersize them, you’ll see it is truly beautiful, in a nostalgic kind of way.

This was created by Etsy users PegandAwl, also known as the husband and wife team of Margaux and Walter Kent. As a side note, they have the best Etsy “about” page I’ve ever seen. This chalkboard pad is made from reclaimed wood (walnut, oak, maple or cedar) acquired in the scrap pile of a local furniture maker’s shop. It’s sanded until it’s smooth, and the sides are beveled. What beautiful craftsmanship. You can pick one up for 50 dollars in their Etsy store.
