Before I even get into this article about these beautiful fireworks, I want to mention that this video was shot and edited with an iPhone 4S. It’s such a great testament for how far technology has come because even just five or six years ago, it would have been unheard of to get these kind of sound effects from a smartphone camera. I love it!
This colorful display of daytime fireworks is called Black Ceremony, and it is the brainchild of artist Cai Guo-Qiang who is one of the most respected gunpowder artists in the world. It took place in Doha, Qatar at the Arab Museum of Modern Art.
He spent over two months, 8,000 military shells and tons of colored smoke (pastels and black) to put all this together. Since normally fireworks displays happen in the evenings, every part of this exhibit had to be custom made. I can’t help but wonder what the effects of this are on the environment, and it’s a little loud for my taste, but other than that, it’s a gorgeous display. It’s a little ironic that something originally created for war can transform into something that is so pretty.
