I remember many years ago when pressing leaves was popular. People press leaves for many different reasons, but mostly so they can have a special memory from a place they visited which can later be used to create artwork which they can display for a long time. I’m sure there is an official way to press leaves, but the way I do it is the most simple way ever.
I just choose a beautiful leaf and then put it between the pages of a really big and heavy book, like an unabridged dictionary. I let it stay in there for a month or two, and then when I open the book and take it out, it’s a fun memory from that special day. It’s like a leaf artifact. People also press flowers and other goodies from nature.
What the artist behind the blog The Sketching Backpacker does with some of the leaves he or she presses will make you smile all day long. That person creates the most creative and inspiring little sketches around the leaves themselves. Each one of these sketches is as cute as the next, and this kind of creativity always makes me happy. I have no idea how someone could even think to do this, which makes it even more fascinating to me.
