Extreme Cut Out Book Art

I am sure I am not the first one to wonder what will become of all the books now that electronic books are making such a huge impact. I am sure there will always be libraries; however, will they be online or will there be scattered real book libraries here and there that will become a way to save the old for later generations? This question could be debated for years I know, but it kind of bothers me that in time, books will become an unnecessary item. Will our bookshelves become home to something else and if so, what will that be? The digital way of buying books is of course good and all, but I will miss the days when you could just flip the pages of a book and get inspired.

No matter how much we will all miss books and try to save the most inspiring ones, there are people out there who have a whole different idea about what to do with those chunks of driftwood to be. Brian Dettmer is one of those people, and what he does with his books might be horrific to some people. However, no one ever said art comes without a price, so if you feel that books are best preserved as they are, and if you would feel physical pain if someone even remotely harms the cover or the content of them, I suggest that you look away right now.

Brian actually carves up the books until you can’t recognize them anymore. The result is some heavily creative and extreme cut out book art. I am sure many people are cursing the hell out of Brian for doing this now, but give it a chance and at least check out the beauty of his creations. I swear, I have never seen anything even close to what he’s creatively done with a few books, a scalpel and a vivid imagination. Say what you will about the horrific deed, this is something extraordinary and should at least be hailed for being ultimately creative!
