Get Your Retro Fix: Melted Vinyl Record Designs

Although it’s sometimes sad when some of our favorite things become obsolete, it also signifies a new time of inspiration for artists. Take books for example, now that we are well within the era of iPads and Kindles, we get to see countless ways imaginative artists are able to give old books a new life with their creations.

Today it’s all about vinyl records. Do you remember those? They were only around when I was very young. I don’t remember the records themselves as much as I remember the beautiful album covers that I found in my father’s attic one day when I was house cleaning. We’ve featured a few artists who have come up with some pretty creative ways to reuse vinyl records. This artist shingled his roof with them, and this other one made some super cool clocks with them.

Today I’d like to share with you the retro vinyl record artwork of Angelo Bramanti and Giuseppe Siracusa who collectively call themselves L017. Their work is well known in the design community, and they’ve recently updated their portfolio. They take vinyl records and melt them down into warped statues, portraits and bizarrely interesting 3D art pieces. You can learn more about these artists on their website L017. Wow, I love the skeletons below! If I were to see that one in a gallery, I would never guess it was made from melted vinyl records.
