Incredible Vintage Matchbook Cover Art [12 Pics]

If you follow the trends in unique art, you know that bigger does not mean better. Actually, sometimes the smaller something is, the more impressive it is. We’ve written about this many times, and the scenes that are made out of specs of dust which fit in the eye of a needle and sell for $80,000 each are a perfect example. That’s not to say that really big art isn’t impressive too, but there is just something about tiny art that really showcases an artist’s talent.

I remember when I was a little girl, there was an ashtray and a pack of matches on the tables in restaurants. You don’t see that much anymore here, so these matchbook drawings are very nostalgic to me. Each one is only one inch by one inch in size. It’s amazing to me how much detail Jason D’Aquino, the artist, is able to fit inside that small space.

Jason finds these books of matches at estate sales, flea markets and antique shops. It would never occur to me to even save those. I’ve always just thrown them away. It’s another example of how one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. He uses graphite and sometimes a hair brush to complete his drawings. Incredible! You can view more of his matchbook art on his website at Jason D’Aquino.
