There’s been a lot of leaf carvings featured around the Internet over the past few months. When I first started seeing them, my brain didn’t really get it. Leaves are so fragile, and I just couldn’t comprehend how someone could possibly carve so delicately into a leaf without breaking it in order to create beautifully detailed designs.
Today when I saw this advertising campaign with an airplane, a landscape, cars, buses and trucks, all carved into leaves, I knew I had to share it with you because it’s truly mind blowing. Look carefully at the leaves below and let your eyes adjust to the designs. In just a moment, they’ll pop out at you, and you’ll see them clearly.
These were created by Lorenzo Duran for an ad campaign called Plant for the Planet. The objective of the campaign was to cleverly illustrate the individual leaf’s ability to absorb CO2. I can imagine that this type of work requires more patience than I’ve probably ever had bundled inside me at one time. Lorenzo is insanely talented. In addition to his work being tiny, delicate and detailed, he has to think in negative space with regard to the designs themselves. All I can say is wow!
