Liquid Fonts: An Awesome Type Experiment

I am used to checking out at least a dozen new fonts each day. Why? Well, because I am a designer, and I need some inspiration sometimes. I am sure all you designers out there know what I am talking about. Looking at new fonts is one of the best ways to really get a boring uninspired day going. If you haven’t tried it before, you should, because it could totally turn a frustrating day into a truly fruitful day with a lot of original designs created. One thing I have seen is that even though there are thousands upon thousands of new fonts released each year, they all seem to be almost the same. Of course, some are original enough to go… “Neat!” However, I feel sometimes the format they come in is a little static.

When I stumbled over what is called Liquid Fonts, I immediately started jumping up and down out of pure excitement. Sure, I wasn’t going to be able to use them in my own designs due to their format, but I was excited because there was something new on the scene, and that alone allows me to get more inspired. What liquid fonts really are is an experiment that will most definitely have you watching closely. It will keep you peeled to the screen for as long as these showcases run.

They are actually small videos of liquid being poured in what I can only describe as in a simulation kind of way, in what looks like a 3D mold. It’s all 3D generated, and the physics and the way they have created it is beyond awesome. You can clearly see the letters, and the best part is when the letters dissolve into pure liquid. That’s when you realize the originality of these quite amazing liquid fonts. I can imagine these being used in future OLED newspapers and ads which will definitely bring advertising to another level. What are the other uses you see for this? Can you come up with any? These amazing creations are created by Skyrill Studios.
