This article is near and dear to me because I love merry-go-rounds, I love my bicycle and more than both of those, I love recycling. This artistic creation combines all three of those.
Robert Wechsler, an artist living in Los Angeles, is known for his unusual yet simple installations. I remember seeing a shopping cart design of his several months ago, and I thought then that he truly has a special talent for putting together simple everyday items in a way that gives them a different perspective and purpose.
This bicycle carousel is by far my favorite one of his designs. He created this by recycling nine old bikes. The only materials he used were the bicycles themselves, some tube steel to attach them to each other and some yellow paint. Just so you can get an idea of the size, it stands three feet tall and is twelve feet in diameter. This carousel (kinda like a merry-go-round for adults) can be easily taken down and put back together, so it can be moved from place to place. Robert envisions this being in a public place, like in front of an office building or in a park, where people everywhere can join in the fun! I wish we had one of these in Atlanta, I would ride it all the time. Props!
