Straw Sculptures: Odd Air Soft Visuals

It’s weird, I’ve covered so much odd and wonderful artwork since Bit Rebels started, and yet I am still overwhelmed by the infinite amount of stuff I have never seen before. It’s usually stuff I’ve never even thought of before as well. Not only is it inspiring to checkout, but it is also a truly neat pool of art to tap into in order to get your morning creativity going. The fun part is that artists of today use the most random items to create their art. Whatever you thought you would never in a million years use as a tool to create art, they use. It’s maddening to the point where you start seeing art in pretty much every single item around you.

The latest in the row of awesome sculptures are these Straw Sculptures from Sang Sik Hong. They display a pretty clever and head-spinning use of ordinary straws to create air soft sculptures that look almost like they could lift off because of their light appearance. The art pieces all have the same look and feel, and it looks almost like the sculptures themselves are made out of pure smoke or some other really light material.

I take it that these sculptures are made using the old but trusty push leveling technique to be sure the straws are cut at the exact angle and point. They are also at the perfect length to match the straws around them. The up-close face is probably my personal favorite since it displays so much of the air soft expression, and it is probably the one that reveals most of the process that took place, and how it was made. I had a pretty clever title that could have set this article off; however, I decided to keep it for the end. These pieces of art will totally suck you in. Err…
