Stunning Lamps Created From Used & Stained Coffee Filters

When I first heard about these lamps made with coffee filters, I assumed the coffee filters weren’t used. I mean, used coffee filters are so fragile and full of coffee grounds, right? I was way off base. These lamps are each one-of-a-kind, and they are made by recycling used coffee filters. The colors you see are a combination of natural coffee filters and some that are stained with juice from vegetables like beets and spinach, and spices like paprika.

Vilma Farrell (Etsy artist Lampada) creates these lamps by hand in the evenings after her children go to bed. She is originally from Brazil, and she uses that country’s love of coffee for her inspiration. She waits patiently for each coffee filter dry. Then she decides if she is going to dye it, she cuts it, she weaves it into a frame and she applies varnish for the finishing touch.

Before I started writing for Bit Rebels, I only thought of recycling and repurposing when it comes to the basics like paper, plastic and metals. But now, I realize that just about anything in our daily lives from our old bras to our used dryer sheets can be given a new life if we just use a little imagination.
