The Biro Pencil Carpet: Creativity Underneath Your Feet

Interior design is a broad topic, and I don’t think I have ever met anyone who is able to manage it all. There are so many elements to it, and yet, there’s such a limited area to practice it on. I mean, our house is only so big, and we usually fill it with stuff as we go. We don’t typically put everything in our house at once. We’re used to changing it from time to time too, and that makes it all a time consuming endeavor. Once we have found what we like, and we can live with it, we still can’t seem to be satisfied. There are always things to buy and to put in our houses. Some people don’t even want to throw any of the old things out. It’s all a time consuming process really, and it never gets done.

If you think decorating your house is time consuming, I am sure you will rethink that once you have a look at what artist Jonathan Bréchignac created to grace the floor at his house. Things can take time, but when you start spending over a year creating your very own carpet with a Biro pencil, you know decorating your whole house is going to take a long time. That is exactly what Jonathan has done, and the process has been meticulously documented.

With just a few (quite a few) Biro pencils he’s managed to create one of the most intricate patterns I have ever seen to date. This insane carpet, yes they say it is sort of a prayer carpet, has details that you can’t even dream about. It’s an intense craftsman’s work, and just looking at this thing gives me a headache. Of course, not because it is anything other than beautiful, but because the patterns and detail are so mind blowing that I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. I keep trying to look closer, and the closer I get, the more detail I see. This has to be one of the most dedicated Biro pencil creations ever. Big props!
