Typeface Design | Identity Study

Creating a visually pleasing design is quite a feat and takes some thinking to pull off. Did you know typeface has a whole history of cool things behind it’s creation and evolution. There is a font that defines everything. Even years and of course identities. It’s easy being lost when trying to choose a font for a certain design and today there’s hundreds of thousands to choose from so picking the right one isn’t always the easiest thing in the world.

Even Wall Streets stock pages has a whole science behind it and the round up of stocks is one of the hardest things to print in a newspaper. The optical aspect of it demands a huge scientific research in order to make it viewable and understood. Companies spends sometimes several hundreds of thousands of dollars to make sure their brand and identity is portraited in the best of ways using that perfect font that forever will be connected with them. McDonald’s is a classic example of that.

In this clip we get to see the science side of typeface creation and it’s incorporation. It’s an interview with Steve Heller, Jonathan Hoefler, Tobias Frere-Jones. All which have exstensive knowledge and experience about typeface and font creation as well as graphic design.
