How Many SNES Games Are There?

When the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was first released back in 1990, people had no idea how big it would be. Sort of like crypto casinos was released, such as BTC Casino UK. Worldwide, the console sold a total of 49 million units before the production lines stopped in 2003, and still today a strong market of gamers continues to buy and sell the old consoles.

Neither could the legacy of the console have been truly appreciated back in 1990. The 16-bit console lasted 13 years and in that time saw the introduction of enhancement chips, the adaptation of its games to the Nintendo Gameboy, and the creation of a world of different peripherals.

The console has become the universally recognized symbol of retro gaming, and many gaming experts claim that it’s the greatest console of all time. The most cited reason for this? The games. In total there were 1758 different SNES games released between 1990 and now – incredible!

How Many US Super Nintendo Games Are There?

The first games to be released on the SNES in the American market were Super Mario World, Pilotwings, and F-Zero. All of these were released on the 23rd of August, the official date that the console began shipping to the US.

The last game to be released in the American market (aside from Star Fox 2 – see below) was Frogger, a reboot of the classic 1981 arcade game in which you try to get a family of frogs to successfully cross a busy road.

In total, there were 721 different SNES games released into the US market and 121 of these were exclusive to the region. Included in this were the classics such as Arkanoid, Tetris, and Space Invaders.

However, Creative Freedom Was High At This Stage Of Game Development. This Led To A Range Of Themes And Plots:

  • Vegas Stakes – Turn $1,000 into $10m. Pretty uninspiring, but amazingly it was released all the way up until the Wii U! We’re not quite sure why – especially when USA Online Casino Finder can help you find legal casinos for real money – but it can’t have done bad to be re-released so recently!
  • Boogerman – Bit squeamish? Look away now. A simple platformer turned into toilet humor, with weapons consisting of burps, farts, and bright green boogers. Yes, Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure (to use its full title) went for shock value, but never really took off.
  • Noah’s Ark – Despite Noah’s noble intentions, did you ever think that his ark might turn into a bit of a bloodbath with all those animals on board? Well, developer Wisdom Tree clearly shared those views, with this game seeing you take on the role as Noah to defend yourself against animal attacks. One of the strangest of them all.
  • Shaq Fu – Undoubtedly, though, we’ve left the best until last: Shaquille O’Neal’s version of Street Fighter (no, we’re not joking!). Teach one of the NBA’s biggest stars some martial arts to become the “Enforcer of Justice” so he can go and rescue a little boy…

How Many SNES Classic Games Are There?

The SNES Classic is Nintendo’s 2017 miniature version of the original. It’s an emulator-based console that doesn’t require the same cartridges. In total, the SNES Classic, also often called the SNES Mini, comes with 21 pre-installed games on its internal memory.

These 21 titles vary between regions, with only 16 of them being constant across all parts of the globe. The remaining 5 are specific to the North American/PAL and Japanese versions. In fact, the last game to ever be published was included on the Classic.

The game is Star Fox 2, which was halted toward the end of its production in 1996 before now being relaunched as a bonus prize for completing the first level on Star Fox 1.

How Many Games Are In The NES Library?

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) came before all this, having only half of the bit capacity as its 16-bit successor. Not only did the NES have 50% of the CPU, but it also had far fewer titles as its younger sibling. That’s because there were only 716 games in the NES library. Yet, despite this lower number, sales figures for the console were very impressive – coming in just short of 62 million units worldwide.

What Was The Best SNES Game Ever?

Given that there are 1758 different titles for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, you’d think that the contest for the outright best game would be very subjective. Of course, it does still depend on whom you ask, but there are certain releases whose size and significance cannot be downplayed. In our view, the best SNES game ever released is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past Quick Facts:

  • Launched in Japan on November 21st, 1991
  • 3rd installment of the Legend of Zelda series
  • Sold 4.6 million units worldwide

It’s also widely recognized as one of the greatest releases ever and has spawned many remakes and adaptations on Nintendo’s later consoles. In fact, many die-hard fans claim that the Nintendo 64’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (selling 7.6 million worldwide) is merely a reboot of this original title.
