This is a RTS (Real Time Strategy) game that was born out of Darwinia. Darwinia was a single player indie game with the plot that you were inside a guys computer helping rid a virus that had attacked his experiment. The Darwinians, although square and flat, are surprisingly cute, and you have to get them to a safe spot while defeating the evils of the virus threat!
Multiwinia is an expansion of this idea with multi-player availability. I love the 8bit look of this game, and just the way it works is really nice.  You can download the demo on Steam and through their website. Yes you would have to pay for the full game, but it is pretty cheap, especially over Steam.
