22 Reasons To Explore Outer Space

I’m completely fascinated with outer space and the universe we live in. I read today that even though many people have always thought the universe was infinite, scientists are on the verge of proving it’s finite. However, from a physics perspective, if the size of the universe has always been expanding, doesn’t that mean at one point it was finite and measurable? Otherwise how would we be sure it was expanding? In other words, if at any given moment in time the universe is a specific size, how can we refer to it as infinite? Hmm… It’s a brainteaser for sure.

According to an article written on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration a week ago, “…the Universe is infinite in extent; however, since the Universe has a finite age, we can only observe a finite volume of the Universe. All we can truly conclude is that the Universe is much larger than the volume we can directly observe.

Now that the Space Shuttle Endeavour has taken it’s final mission (check out these National Geographic pictures), you may be filled with the feeling of nostalgia and want to explore space for yourself. I’ve written about this before, but now it’s official. Virgin Galactic is currently accepting bookings if you’d like to take a two and a half hour trip into space. Tickets cost $200,000 and the deposit is $20,000. You can book your flight on Virgin Galactic.

Over 430 people have already made their space travel reservations. Some are couples who want to be the first to experience the mile high club in space, some are geeks who have dreamed of space travel their whole lives and some are just ordinary people who simply view this trip as the opportunity of a lifetime, and they don’t want to miss out on it. If you are unsure about whether or not going into space is right for you, check out this cute illustration by Kasey McMahon at Atypical Art. She gives us 22 reasons to fly into space. Hey, I’m sold on the idea! All I need now is the $200,000. Anyone want to go with me?
