I love flash mobs. I don’t know if it’s the creativity and talent or the element of surprise that gets me, but I’m completely fascinated by them. I have noticed a correlation between the popularity of flash mobs and the popularity of social media. I did not know that these two things officially had a symbiotic relationship until I read the definition below. I love both of them!
In case you are unfamiliar with a flash mob, let me give you the Wikipedia definition: “A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The term ‘flash mob’ is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails. The term is generally not applied to events organized by public relations firms or as publicity stunts.â€
In other words, flash mobs are wild and freaky events with a large group of participants that appear to be unplanned, but are in fact, precisely planned. (It makes me wonder, would the recent Twitter “Denial of Service attack†be classified as a virtual flash mob?)
I have found three amazing flash mob videos for you. I ranked them, and they are listed in order of first, second and third place. If you have a flash mob video you would like to share, please post the link below!
Enjoy!
