This is going to blow your mind. Are you ready? Did you know that digital 3D printing of eco-friendly houses is a reality now? In other words, it’s not something that could happen in the future (which we’ve read about before), but it’s happening now. The whole concept of 3D printing is completely baffling to me.
About a year ago, I wrote about the technology to use a 3D printer to print edible food. Ever since then, every time I read about the potential when it comes to 3D printing, my brain feels like it’s riding on a roller coaster. It’s absolutely insane what is possible!
A company called Facit Homes builds these houses, and you can watch the video below to see the process in action. Assembling a house this way is compared to snapping together Lego bricks. Apparently every piece of the home is light enough for two people to easily put together. I live in the South, and in a big city, so of course I wonder how safe these houses would be and if they could withstand the tornadoes that we have come through here each year. This kind of reminds me of what it would be like to go to IKEA, buy a house, and go home to assemble it one afternoon. You can read all the geeky details about this over on Treehugger. Amazing!
