DIY Drone Kit: Transform Anything Into A Drone In Only A Few Minutes

If you’re a geek, you probably like drones. Drones are fun, there’s no doubt about it. Making them can be even more fun. Recently we featured a restaurant in London that uses drones to serve the food. Imagine what it would be like to have your burger come flying through the air to your table on the wings of a ‘waitress drone.’ If you think you need to have a lot of technical know-how to make a drone, think again. Now there is a very simple DIY drone kit.

The thing that makes this DIY drone kit so cool is that it allows you to turn any object into a drone. As you’ll see in the video below, you just attach four small motors and a control unit. There is zero technical know-how needed. If you want to create something a little more advanced with this, you can take this kit and alter it by making your own add-ons of course.

This DIY drone kit was created by Jasper van Loenen. You can view all the intricate details for this project on his website at DIY (Drone It Yourself). According to his site, “The plastic parts have been 3D printed in ABS. The control unit contains a receiver, four ESCs, a Bluetooth module and an OpenPilot CC3D flight controller.” He even included the original file and STL files for anyone who wants them.

There is no word yet about when he will be selling these drone kits, but I’m hoping he’ll start a Kickstarter campaign to get it going. I know a lot of people would really enjoy this, and they would most likely contribute to a crowdsourcing campaign.
