Over the years, there has been a lot of photography that shows just how immersed we all get when we play video games. It just never gets old. Last year I remember seeing a photography collection that featured little kid gamers, and it was fascinating to watch their faces as they played their favorite games. I know when I play games, I get so focused that I can’t hear or see anything else around me. The entire house could be burning down, and I probably wouldn’t even notice.
This is a similar campaign in a long line of “gamers faces” photography. You may have seen these photographs before. They were taken by New York City photographer Timothy Saccenti. These pictures were part of the print campaign for the Sony Playstation PS3 called The Playface. If you want to get the full effect, you’ve got to watch the video below. It’s full of eye-twitches, teeth gritting and death grips which I’m sure all my fellow gamers out there are very familiar with.
It’s funny to me that in this 2009 article on Creative Review, they compared these photos to a Trojan condom campaign from 2004. This Sony campaign turned out to be very controversial, and you can Google that for details if you’d like to read about it. Regardless of all that drama, I just love these faces. This is an oldie but a goodie that you’ve just got to appreciate if you are a gamer. Enjoy!
