Every since this picture below of the girl with 8-bit makeup on her face went viral two days ago, I’ve been inspired to create something 8-bit. Since it’s the weekend, and I’ve got a little time on my hands, I’ve figured out what I’m going to make… homemade 8-bit pixelated sugar cookies.
I know how to make really yummy sugar cookie dough from scratch, but what about the pixels? How can the pixel get into the cookie if you know what I mean? I did a quick Internet search and found the answer. You create different colors of dough, roll it out, and slice it into long logs. The video below shows this in detail. Another option, according to SeattleJonman, is to put the dough into a Play-Doh Fun Factory and pump it out. Although that option seems faster and the pieces would be a more consistent size, I’m going to do it the old fashioned way since I don’t have one of those Play-Doh thingys on hand.
The only thing I’m unsure about is how to layer the colors of dough to make the correct pixelated design. I read that some people use an excel spreadsheet to figure this out. I’ll let you know if I find an easier way. The pictures below are from SeattleJonman‘s flickr photostream. I love the smell of cookies when it fills the house. I wish ya’ll could come over to have some when they’re finished baking!
