Father & Son Build Insanely Impressive Retro 80s Arcade In Basement

It’s summertime once again, and this time of year always reminds me of the late ’80s when my mom would drop me off at the arcade with a handful of quarters and my dreams of high scores. I spent a few summers in those ’80s arcades, and back then, it was a rite of passage, and it was where all the cool kids hung out. Although there are still some so-called arcades around, they aren’t the same. If you played in those ’80s arcades, you know what I mean.

This arcade that a father and son built in their basement is as close to the real thing as I have seen in a while. If you a geek, you are going to think this is spectacular. I still can’t stop staring at these pictures. I have a full size Arkanoid (that requires quarters) in my kitchen, but suddenly that doesn’t seem so cool anymore. This is without a doubt the most extravagant homegrown retro ’80s arcade I’ve ever seen.

There is everything in here, and it’s so pristine and perfect, as if it was time warped straight from the ’80s. Apparently these games don’t take any quarters, which is a good thing. They probably need to save those for their electricity bill. This basement arcade took reddit user mertzlufft and his father six years to complete. I wonder if they have a power surge backup. It would be a shame to lose any high scores if the power goes out for some reason.

If I lived in that house, I would put my home office down there right in the middle of all the madness. I can’t think of a better use for a basement than this. What a huge accomplishment, and I’m sure it was a special project for their family to do together. I hope they don’t plan on moving any time soon! Congratulations guys, there is no question about it, you have the best basement ever!
