Martin Luther King, Jr. Portrait Made With 4,242 Rubik’s Cubes!

Believe me when I say that we here at Bit Rebels have our share of crazy ideas throughout the day. It’s our way of brainstorming, and even though some ideas seem to be way out there, you can always be sure that there is information derived from those crazy ideas that can lead to another idea. In the end, you have a complete solution for something entirely different, but if that crazy idea would have never seen the light of day, you would have never come to that particular final conclusion. Personally, I call it a thread solution. So next time you think that your ideas are too crazy to even mention, think again. There is always something to learn from a crazy idea.

When it comes to the Rubik’s cube; however, there seems to be no idea too crazy to undertake. Pete Fecteau woke up from a dream and was mesmerized by what he had dreamed about. The idea seemed insanely crazy, but he knew that this was something he had to explore. In his dream, he visualized a portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. all made out of Rubik’s cubes. Yes, the idea was out of this world, and to even think about turning such an idea into reality seemed even more insane.

However, he had to do it, and he started to twist those cubes one by one in order to get the right “pixels” to form the sections of the portrait. It took Pete over a year to complete the task of twisting and turning every single implemented Rubik’s cube into the right set of pixels. He has said himself that working on a project for over a year is crazy enough not to ever even considering taking on. He did though, and now that the project and the portrait are finished, you have to agree that it was well worth the work. At least it was for us, the viewers, because it is certainly a badass creation and a wondrous work of art!
