When I read that there was a new world record for the tallest Lego tower, my brain didn’t really comprehend how tall it would be. This colorful tower of geeky goodness looks like it touches the sky! It’s shaky too, and part of me wonders if it fell down, if a person on the ground would get hurt from a Lego falling on them from so high up. Hmm… I guess that’s a question for someone who understands physics better than me.
This tower, located in Brazil, is made from 500,000 Lego bricks that were mostly put together by children. It is a little over 102 feet tall, which is ten inches taller than the Lego structure in Chile that previously snagged the world record in 2008. It took four days to build this tower.
The wires you see in the picture below are keeping it from toppling over. So how do you build a Lego tower this tall? I was wondering the same thing. Apparently the 6,000 volunteers constructed a bunch of manageable sections, which a crane then lifted and carefully put into place. What an amazing and inspiring event that must have been to attend! I wish I could have been there to see it being constructed. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this endeavor. Thank you to @MarySarahMusic for letting me know about this new world record!
