Order Of The Stick: The Best Webcomic For D&D Fans

Since I’m a lifelong fan of the wonderful world of Dungeons and Dragons, and a lifelong fan of webcomics, I am a firm believer that comic creator Rich Burlew has struck geek gold with his stick figure fantasy comic series ‘Order of the Stick,’ which is commonly referred to as ‘OOTS.’ OOTS began in 2003 as a way to attract traffic to Burlew’s new website. The comic gained a high level of popularity as he continued to create strips. The comic is in a stick figure format, and most of the comedy is centered around the world of D&D and people who play D&D, so naturally it is a perfect read for anyone who can appreciate Dungeons and Dragons, or the joy of laughter.

Burlew brings life to a delightfully diverse group of characters in your standard “fellowship” style. The group consists of fearless leader and battle hardened warrior Roy, second in command rogue Haley, dwarf cleric of Thor Durkon, charmingly dimwitted bard Elan, Halfling ranger Belkar, and Arcane elf sorcerer Vaarsuvius. The plot of OOTS sets our heroes on an adventure to stop the conquests of a Lich named Xykon and his standard villainous take over the world plan.

Due to personal health issues, Rich does not always publish strips on a regular basis, but he does as often as possible. He has also released compilations of the strips in book form, and a role-playing board game based on Order of the Stick as well. They are all available for purchase through Ookoodook. Currently Author Rich Burlew is out of drawing commission due to a hand injury he sustained last year. As of December, he is in therapy and hopes to return to pumping out comics on a regular basis soon. Until then, for those of you who have never had the opportunity to read Order of the Stick, there are 864 strips as of now that you can get started on in order to be caught up before Rich begins releasing new strips again on Giant In The Playground.
