Play Monopoly With Mario: The Retro Nintendo Version

Monopoly is one of the most well known of all the classic board games, and I can think of at least a dozen other games that are inspired by it. I like to play Monopoly, but I always used to lose at it when I was a kid. I sure did learn a lot about money and how to spend it wisely though. There have been a lot of Monopoly spinoffs over the years, and we’ve even written about a few of them. The Monopoly Web Lovers Edition was full of geeky fun, but the Monopoly Game Made From Solid Gold made more of a statement to me. After all, just the dice alone are dripping in diamonds and worth $10,000. If you like to play Monopoly, you may even have an unusual version of it in your own closet.

Of all the different Monopoly editions out there, this Nintendo Monopoly version that I recently found is the best one. If you are into retro ’80s games like us, it will make you squeal in geeky delight too. As you can see in the pictures, there are a few different versions of this floating around out there. I’m not sure why, but after researching it, I think there was an official 2010 Nintendo Monopoly version that is no longer available, and a few of these great pictures are from that game. It looks like it was a lot of fun, and maybe it was a limited edition or something.

However, if you want one of these so you can play Monopoly with Mario, I did find another version of this on ThinkGeek. The properties on the game are all named after NES games that you’ll recognize, and it even comes with “quick rules” so the game won’t last all afternoon like the classic Monopoly game does. Instead of buying houses and hotels, you can buy power-ups and invincibility. It features Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Star Fox and Wario. It can be delivered to you for the geeky price of $40. It will surely make your inner geek smile!
