Rust Stickers – Can They Keep Your Car From Getting Stolen?

Dominic Wilcox is one of my favorite designers. I’ve always admired his work. You’ve probably seen him before. Richard wrote an article about one of his iPad accessory designs last week. If you want to check it out, you can go here: Is This The iPad’s True Use? [Humor] Today I’m going to feature another one of Dominic’s designs. This one is a little bit less sophisticated, but just as much fun. It’s an anti-theft device for your car, motorcycle or bicycle.

According to Yahoo, approximately one million cars are stolen each year just in the states alone. It happened to me once when I was at University. It’s such a strange feeling to walk to your car and find that it’s gone. I don’t think car alarms are as effective as they used to be either. Here in Atlanta, car alarms go off all the time accidentally. It’s really more of an annoyance than an alert of an intruder. Many times people don’t even look up from what they are doing to see the car whose alarm is blasting.

Dominic Wilcox is trying to change that. He created a series of very realistic looking temporary stickers that look like rust and scratches that you can stick to your car. The idea is that the thief will walk passed your car and choose a more desirable target that isn’t so junky looking. I’m sure there are people out there that will steal a car regardless of whether it has rust or scratches on it, but it’s still a cute idea that would probably work some of the time.

On his website, Dominic writes, “I have stuck them to my shiny new red bike and can confirm that it hasn’t been stolen yet. 13 days of not being stolen in London probably equates to 7 years of non-stealing in the friendly countryside. Good luck and happy thief avoidance.” You can learn more about these stickers and even order some by going to http://www.dominicwilcox.com. Great job Dominic!
