These Guys Built The Ultimate Human Hamster Wheel Standing Desk

I probably sit way more than I should when I am working. As a matter of fact, I am sitting right now. It has been proven through studies that sitting down is slowly killing us. Our human bodies are simply not meant to be sitting. Most people continue to sit down when they work despite the fact that we now have standing desks that will allow you to avoid sitting as much at work. For two guys, Robb Godshaw and Will Doenlen, enough was enough, and they went on an endeavor that would end in them building the ultimate human hamster wheel standing desk.

It is not often that you are allowed to experiment at work, but these guys’ idea was simply too good not to be realized. How can you tell someone they can’t be allowed to be healthier, right? The design for their human hamster wheel is pretty simple, however, genius! It fits right around their standing desk and allows them to continue working freely while also being able to walk and stay active. Some would undoubtedly ask why they couldn’t just have used a treadmill. Well, that wouldn’t have been as cool, and this contraption is more environmentally friendly as well.

The project was completed within 24 hours, and co-workers took turns to try it out. After all, who wouldn’t want to get their legs moving after a day of tedious computer work, right?

It measures 80 inches in diameter and is built to fit most people. You can even take it off its base and roll it down the street. Perhaps with a person in it, even though that is not recommended in any way.

Should you want your very own human hamster wheel standing desk, then you should be happy to hear that they have made the design available to the public on their Instructable page. Give it a go and see if you can’t become a little bit more active during your work hours. If this would go viral, then we can expect a lot of people to become a lot more healthy. So, give it a share and let people know about this amazing creation. If you build it yourself, let us know in the comment section below. It would be great to see how you implemented this human hamster wheel into your work environment.
