Star Trek Characters & Aliens As Imagined By Pixar

Recently Phil Postma created some truly original Star Trek artwork in the style of a Pixar animated feature. I find the concept actually kind of exciting as it revitalizes the original series in a new medium. If you are a fan of the series, you know there was a short abortive attempt to turn Star Trek into an animated series that certainly did nothing to help the cause.

If J.J. Abrams had not rebooted the movie franchise when he did, would it have been only a matter of time before we saw the Star Trek characters look like this? Honestly, I am not sure if it would have been a bad thing to have the original series rebooted as a Pixar film. I know that as a sci-fi fan, most animated films fall short of expectation. Fortunately, we have the new motion pictures to carry the series forward.

Some of these Star Trek characters look like very familiar Pixar favorites. For instance, Kirk looks like a skinny version of Mr. Incredible, and McCoy looks like the annoying insurance boss of the same film. Sulu is a wee bit too jaundiced and looks a bit more like a vampire than an Asian. I like that the artist included some of the well known aliens like Klingons and even Orion Slave Girl and Andorians. Even the Cherons are represented so kudos for all of this work.

In any event, this is an interesting body of work so perhaps we can convince Mr. Postma to take on the Next Generation or even better, Voyager. I’ve love to see what he does with the Borg, especially one former Borg in particular. Overall, these playful renderings capture the imagination and offer us a glimpse at what might have been in a galaxy far, far away. Oh wait, that’s an entirely different metaphor. So what do you think of these Star Trek characters and aliens? Please share your feelings with the group.
