I grew up with the Justice League. Like every other geeky girl, I wanted to be Wonder Woman sooooo bad. Have you ever thought about what it would be like for the Justice League to go punk? Yeah, me neither, until today. Although these illustrations are insanely creative and very well done, they kinda mess with my interpretation of what the Justice League is.
For some reason, there always seems to be confusion about who exactly is in the Justice League. According to Wikipedia, the original line up included Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. Other characters came and went as part of the team throughout the years including Green Arrow, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Black Canary, Zatanna, Captain Marvel, Plastic Man, Elongated Man, Red Tornado and dozens others.
The artists created these as part of Warren Ellis’ Remake/Remodel Forum Challenge. I didn’t even know about this challenge until I read about it on Geek-O-System today. Apparently it happens weekly, and judging from the comments, this ain’t your average Photoshop contest. They do not mess around, and if you submit something cheesy, you will totally get called out. I love it. This week, the challenge was to imagine what it would look like if the manager of the Sex Pistols got the rights to the Justice League in 1977 and made a movie of them. The third picture below was a fan favorite, and I can see why. Actually, all of these are amazing! Check out the original thread for the artists’ names and the full display of submissions.
