What Your Computer Wallpaper Reveals About You

What does the wallpaper on your computer look like? Is it simple? Is it busy? Is it personal? Are your icons scattered all over the place like a messy desk, or do you have everything neatly organized? This is an interesting question because according to psychologists, our computer desktop says a lot about our personality type.

On the surface, everyone knows that having a super sweet wallpaper is imperative; however, the question is, what do you choose to make you smile when you sit down at your desk every morning and look at your computer? Ben Williams, a corporate psychologist said, “By looking at someone’s computer wallpaper, you can tell whether they are proactive people who are going to make things happen or reactive people who wait for things to happen and then respond to them.” According to an article on Forever Geek, psychologist Donna Dawson says this about the wallpaper and icons on our desktop computers:

If you have icons randomly scattered, you are unorganized, and you lose focus easily.
If you have neatly organized rows of icons, you are balanced and work well under pressure.
If you have a personal photo as your wallpaper, whatever it is a picture of, that is your priority in life.
If you have the default wallpaper, you either don’t know how to change it, or you are a very private person.
If you put an award that you’ve won as your wallpaper, you have a big ego (ya think?).

After learning this information, the first thing I did was take a picture of my own desktop to share with you. I didn’t change anything for the sake of this picture; I just picked up my iPhone and snapped a shot. I’m nervous about what this reveals about me!

I also asked the question on Twitter… I couldn’t include all the answers I received, but I chose a few responses to share with you here.

One of my favorite funny websites, Pleated-Jeans, has their own take on what our computer desktops reveal about us. Check out their original illustrations below.
