Since I’m on the Internet almost all day everyday, it’s rare that I see something that impresses me as much as this does. On Bit Rebels, we’ve written about many different kinds of builds, some of which have taken two or three years to make, but I think I’ve found something that will trump every single one of those.
This is the world’s largest model airport which was recently unveiled in Germany. It took seven years to build, it takes up 150 square meters, and it cost 4.8 million dollars to make! This airport is modeled to look like the Hamburg Airport, and although it has 40 airplanes and 90 different kinds of vehicles, that is not the most incredible part of it all.
The crazy thing is that each one of those planes and cars can move around the airport by itself. There is an intricate system that moves each one of them remotely by computer. Of course, there are also moving passengers, flashing lights and all the detailed goodies that you would expect on a model of this magnitude. All together, there are about 40,000 lights, 10,000 trees, 1,000 wagons, 100 signals, 300 buildings, 200 switches, 15,000 figurines and 500 cars. Oh my goodness, I would love to see this in person! This model airport is currently on display at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany. Amazing!
