5 Things Tattoo Artists Want You To Know Before Getting Inked

If you’re thinking about getting inked, you might not be the only one feeling a bit hot under the collar. Believe it or not, the process of getting a tattoo can be a nerve-wracking experience for the tattoo artist as well, not least because of the pressure and responsibility that comes with permanently marking someone else’s body. Find a tattoo artist near me.

If you’re thinking about getting a tattoo, here are five things tattoo artists want you to know, to make the process more seamless for everyone.

Expect Tattoo Prices To Vary

Tattoos come in all shapes and sizes, and so do their costs! The price of getting inked can vary depending on lots of factors, including the size, complexity of the design, and time spent to complete the tattoo. The cost of one sleeve could vary dramatically depending on these elements, so make sure you give your tattoo artist the specific design requirements in order for them to provide you with an accurate quote.

Avoid Drinking Alcohol Beforehand

Hitting the booze right before getting a tattoo can cause your blood to thin, meaning you’ll be more prone to bleeding while getting inked. While excess bleeding isn’t nice for anybody, it can also mix with the ink, damaging the final result. Who is going to bear the brunt of that? You guessed it – the tattoo artist.

Don’t Touch Equipment Without Permission

As innocent as having a play with tattoo equipment may seem, tampering with needles can have disastrous consequences. To safely carry out a tattoo, every piece of equipment being used must be completely sterilized. Don’t risk cross contamination by touching items that would have been thoroughly cleaned and sterilised by tattoo designers beforehand.

Haggling Isn’t Cool

Although it is entirely acceptable to haggle prices in some scenarios, many tattoo artists will find it rude and offensive if you try to negotiate the price of a tattoo. After all, tattoo artists have a living to make, and the price is chosen for a reason. Put simply, good quality tattoos aren’t cheap. Be respectful of the talent and skill required for a tattoo artist to create an intricate piece of art on your skin – it’s not as easy as it looks.

No Means No

Some clients may have wildly elaborate ideas that just won’t work in tattoo form. While it is disappointing to be told that your design idea won’t be possible, the tattoo artist knows best. Saying no isn’t a result of laziness on their part –  it is because attempting it could be dangerous or may end in a far from ideal looking final product. Trust the years of knowledge and experience that a tattoo artist has under their belt, and don’t undermine their final word.

To Sum Up

Getting a tattoo should be a mutually respectful process between yourself and the tattoo artist. While it is their responsibility to listen to your requirements and carry out the process safely and accurately, it is your responsibility to respect their advice and tattoo aftercare guidance. After all, they know best.
