So, you’re headed on a vacation to the wonderful islands of Hawaii, and you plan to stop at Maui along the way. These gorgeous islands are filled with sun, fun, and adventure ready for your family to explore.
We know how stressful adequately planning a vacation can be. A ton of details needs to be figured out, from what to pack, how to get to your final destination, and what to do while you’re there. To make things a bit less stressful for you, we have created a list of some must-see attractions when visiting Maui. Read on to learn more.
Who doesn’t like to see these large, beautiful creatures in their natural habitat? When you take a whale-watching tour, not only will you be able to get a great view of the island’s coastline, but you’ll see whales swimming and flopping around with their friends. Some trips bring you around the island while following the whale’s natural migration pattern. Whales have been traveling from far up in North Alaska to Hawaii for at least 700 years, and they use these tropical waters as a place to birth their calves and lay low for the winter months. So you may just have a chance to see a couple of whales and their babies hanging out when you’re on a tour.
Hana is 77 miles from Maui’s main tourist hub of Kaanapali, and is one of the most popular road trips in Hawaii. This trip travels from the west side of the island to the east, and it is definitely one for the cameras. On the way to Hana, you’ll notice more than 600 switchbacks, 46 single-lane bridges, and plenty of scenic waterfalls. But make sure to give yourself ample time to get out and take pictures, because the trip will take a least three hours to complete. And just a warning — all these curves are not for those with weak stomachs!
Hawaii has a rich history of being a volcanic island, which can easily be seen by their multicolored beaches. It is common to see red, black, and white sand beaches all over the island — all beaches where you can swim! So make sure not to miss out on these impressive natural wonders and hit up as many beaches as you can during your trip. Consider bringing an empty water bottle to take some sand home with you.
A Maui luau is sure not to be missed when you are on the island. These incredible performances really showcase the rich history of Hawaii while giving spectators something to remember once they head home. Luaus traditionally include a buffet dinner, hula dancers, fire-knife dancers, along with the telling of different ancient Hawaiian myths and legends. You know you’re at the right place when you hear the loud pounding of drums, so sit down and prepare for quite a show.
No trip to Maui is complete without a trip to the Maui Ocean Center, a massive aquarium that is dedicated to preserving Hawaiian sea life. You’ll take a guided walking path through exhibits highlighting different animals, Hawaiian traditions, and even see a sea turtle sanctuary. The center has plenty of different things to explore, so make sure you give yourself a good half-day to see it all.
Maui has so many things to see, and when you add these to your list, you are guaranteed to have a wonderful vacation. So grab your camera, and get ready to be in awe.
