Nowadays hydroelectric power plants, windmills, and solar panels are becoming increasingly common. The fact that non-renewable sources of energy are dwindling and might run out in the near future is making people move towards renewable sources of energy.
The best example of this shift is the rise of fully-electric and hybrid vehicles in the automobile industry. With crude petroleum sources exhausting in the near future, it has become imperative for automobile manufacturers to think in the direction of renewable sources of energy.
Similar to the automobile industry, there are several renewable energy technology examples around us. In this article, we will be discussing the benefits of using renewable energy. However, before we start, let’s talk about what renewable energy actually is.
In simple words, renewable energy is the energy that comes from a source that does not deplete when utilized, such as wind, geothermal, solar, and hydro energy. Several organizations, institutions, companies, corporations, and individuals from all over the world are adopting renewable energy due to the fact that it is clean, efficient, and won’t run out. Renewable energy has tremendous potential in the future.
Moreover, if we consider the increasing population of the human race, the level of importance of renewable energy receives a further boost. Speaking about electrical energy, among all sources of renewable energy, Solar Energy has a massive potential to solve all our electrical needs due to the fact that sun produces an enormous amount of energy, which is about thousand times greater than the overall electrical energy requirements of the earth.
We are already tapping solar energy via solar cells, solar water heaters, solar cookers etc. In fact, Solar panels fitted with photovoltaic cells play an integral role in various renewable energy technologies.
We all know about the greenhouse effect and the gases that contribute to it. Carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons are examples of greenhouse gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation. By using renewable sources of energy, we do not require burning fossil fuels.
Hence, the overall emission of greenhouse gases will drastically reduce, thereby reducing the phenomena of global warming as well. Global warming has many harmful impacts ranging from frequent storms, droughts, sea level rise to even extinction of species.
We all know that the usage of fossil fuels contributes a lot to air and water pollution. In fact, some cities are so much in the grip of pollution that people are suffering from breathing problems, heart attacks, cancer, premature death, and a variety of other serious ailments. The usage of renewable sources of energy can effectively reduce pollution thereby contributing positively towards public health.
Undoubtedly, renewable sources of energy are more labor-intensive as compared to non-renewable sources of energy. Hence, by shifting to renewable sources of energy we will be helping our economy as well by creating jobs.
According to a survey, the use of renewable sources of energy will intensify in the near future and will create close to 200,000 new jobs for the support of the infrastructure. We do not need to tell you how good this will be in reducing unemployment.
Global warming has shot up the temperatures. Winters are colder and summers are way hotter than normal.
Therefore, we tend to rely heavily on air conditioners in the summer and heaters in the winter. It is needless to say over here that this will result in a dramatic rise in your power bill. Moreover, the power utility company has to resort to power cuts in various areas in order to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for electricity.
When you start utilizing your own solar panels for production of electricity, you are free from the limitations of the utility company. Moreover, if you are left with excess power, you can sell it to the utility company in return for some extra income. So, while people might be experiencing power cuts and blackouts, you are producing your own electricity and are independent of the utility company.
It is only the initial cost which is higher in the case of renewable energy. However, in the long run, your investment pays off and you end up saving a lot of money which would have otherwise gone towards paying for utility bills.
These are only some of the major benefits of using renewable sources of energy. It is high time now that we realize this and start adopting renewable sources of energy in order to live a better and healthier life.
