I admit it. Tofu completely freaks me out. It’s one of those bizarre foods that many people, including me, don’t really understand. If I had to describe tofu, I would say it’s firm but squishy little blocks of an edible substance that changes taste depending on how you eat it. Eeeww…
However, I realize that my understanding of tofu really comes from my own ignorance. I’ve never taken the time to learn about it until today. There seem to be a lot of misconceptions out there about tofu, and to be quite honest, it’s really hard sometimes to separate the fact from the fiction. This Huffington Post article from last year entitled Soy: Blessing or Curse really shed some light on soy and tofu facts.
Did you know that some people eat tofu cake with tofu frosting? It’s true. I found this infographic, created by Soy Life, which explains a lot about how tofu is made and what it’s used for. I’m still not sure if or why exactly I need to eat tofu. I understand it’s healthy, but so are many of the other things I eat that aren’t quite so scary. I feel much better educated now that I read this infographic; however, I’m still not brave enough to eat it. I’ll work up to that.
