Get A Few Extra Pavers

You might be tempted to buy only the number of pavers you need, or, after you are done you might want to sell or throw away the extra pavers. However, these are not good ideas. It is recommended that you keep a few bricks so that you will be able to repair the paver patio if any kind of accident occurs.

Sometimes when you will fix it you might need to cut the paver so that it can fit. In this case, cut it just a bit smaller than the opening so that you can repack sand around it. Additionally, if you have broken pavers you can simply take them out using a pry bar or even some screwdrivers.

Create A Good Base And Think About Drainage

The base is the first step and one that is very important. If you can use a tamper or a wicker plate compactor in order to prepare the base. Make sure that it is smooth and solid that you will be able to lay pavers on it.

You should also think about drainage and make sure that the paver patio won’t suddenly slip away from the foundation of your home. It is recommended to plan a quarter inch drop in elevation for every two feet of distance.

When digging for the base you should also inform yourself. Try calling the local utilities so you can see if there are any electrical lines or cables marked. You don’t want any accidents to happen. If everything is safe begin digging down for six inches or so. If the soil is dry you can try to water it the night before.

Get Rid Of Weeds Around The Paver Patio

There is nothing worse than weeds growing from underneath your patio. In order to prevent that you can create a barrier that will keep them away. Place a landscaping cloth below the sand that you will use for your paver patio.

If you do not know how much cloth is needed simply calculate the square footage of the patio space and then multiply its length by the width and add 10 percent to that.

Following these steps, you should be able to get some fabulous results on your own. Nevertheless, if you feel like it is too much for you and you would want some help, you can always find some experts such as Royal Covers. While it does feel good to do something on your own, sometimes it is wiser to let people with more experience do the work.
