Is Hair Restoration Permanent? – What To Expect In The Long Term?

Men over 30 years old often experience hair loss. Studies show that two-thirds of men over 35 are dealing with noticeable hair loss. But this condition doesn’t affect only men; women also suffer from hair loss. Fortunately, there are effective solutions on the market, and lately, more and more people dealing with this condition are looking into the benefits of hair transplant techniques that promise long-lasting results.

When people think of hair restoration, they probably envision the patchy noticeable hair plugs aestheticians used the past years. But the process has come a long way, and it now uses micrografting technology to harvest hair follicles from another body area than the scalp and donate it to the head.

But Is It Permanent?

After the doctor grafts the hair follicles into the scalp portions where the hair is thinning, the area needs some time to heal. It’s normal some of the hair to fall out during the first three months after the procedure because the healing process can take between 6 and 12 months. After the skin is healed, the transplanted follicles grow new hair and fill the bald areas.

The hair will grow naturally as you age, so at some point in the future, you may notice that your hair is thinning again, but this is just a natural and normal process. All hair follicles have a specific lifespan, so after a time they will gradually stop producing as much hair as they do at the beginning.

Do You Need Another Hair Restoration?

Chances are your first hair transplant not to be your last. Your doctor will tell you if you need multiple hair restoration sessions to achieve the results you want. But you may also be pleased after the first procedure. Wait for your skin to heal before you decide if you want an additional hair transplant for the other thinning patches.

Can You Opt For A Non-Surgical Treatment Instead?

When you experience substantial hair loss, supplements, tonic lotions, shampoos, and other leave-in products won’t provide a drastic improvement. Once you experience balding in specific areas of the scalp, the follicles of those individual hairs have stopped producing hair or became dormant. This means you won’t get any noticeable results if you use a non-surgical treatment.

But if you take supplements and use special shampoos in the early stages of hair thinning, you can slow down the process or even reverse its effects. Non-surgical treatments can sometimes improve hair growth in hair follicles that aren’t totally dormant.

While you can find a variety of vitamins and dietary supplements that promise to treat your hair thinning and loss, there are no clinical studies to support their results. Some people are genetically predisposed to hair loss.

If they take supplements and adopt a hair routine designed for their condition (before the first hair follicles become dormant) they can strengthen their scalp health and prevent alopecia. But when hair loss is significant, surgical hair transplant is the only proven solution to provide results and reduce discomfort.
