Hair Transplants In Turkey – Myths And Facts

Hair transplants are nothing new; however, there are several long-lasting misconceptions surrounding them. Most of these are based on outdated practices (such as hair plugs) or are not true. Here, we break down some of the most common myths and misconceptions about hair transplants to set the record straight. Hair transplants in Turkey provide a safe, affordable, permanent solution to hair loss.

Myth – Hair Transplants Are Painful

Fact: Hair transplants are minimally invasive, outpatient procedures. Modern hair restoration techniques provide for a procedure that is largely free from pain. However, for more pain-averse patients, anesthesia is always an option. A full suite of anesthesiological options is available; from cutting-edge needless pain management to full general sedation, there is no need to experience any pain during a hair transplant.

At the Dr. Serkan Aygin Clinic, we specialize in a new form of Soft FUE. Soft anesthesia is a revolutionary form of needle-free pain management wherein the medication is pushed into the skin using high pressure.

Myth – Hair Transplants Are Only For Old/Young Patients

Fact: This one has a kernel of truth to it. You can’t be “too old” or “too young” for a hair transplant; however, you must be in a place where your hair loss has stabilized. Depending on a patient’s age and hair-loss status, it may be too early or too late for a hair transplant. Typically, the best results are seen in patients between 25-65 years old. The only way to know if you are a candidate is to visit a hair transplant surgeon.

Myth – Hair Transplants Are Only For Men

Fact: While hair transplants are far more common in men (largely due to the increased prevalence of pattern baldness in men over women), patients of all genders may be a viable candidate for hair transplant surgery.

Hair loss in men and women often appears differently but is most commonly caused by androgenetic alopecia (male/female pattern baldness). If this is the cause of hair loss, it can be treated regardless of gender.

Myth – Hair Transplants Are Only For Scalp Hair

Fact: Many top hair transplant surgeons today offer beard hair transplants, eyebrow hair transplants, or even body hair transplants. Regardless of where you have lost hair, as long as you still have healthy hair somewhere, it can be transplanted.

Myth – Hair Transplants Don’t Look Natural

Fact: Modern hair transplants look natural because they are natural. While old-fashioned hair plugs were a bit of an eye-sore, recent advances in the field have led to final results that are indistinguishable from the real thing.

Hair transplants take the patient’s own natural hair from a donor area (scalp hair, beard hair, or even body hair may be used) before implanting it into the recipient area. During this procedure, great care is taken to place the hairs in line with the patient’s own natural angle and hair growth direction.

Myth – Hair Transplants Are Temporary

Fact: Hair transplants are truly permanent, life-long solutions. Since the hair follicles taken from the donor area are chosen to be the healthiest, thickest hairs available, they will continue to grow over the remainder of the patient’s life.

For most patients facing pattern baldness, hair loss occurs only in a specific region, typically leaving the remaining hair follicles completely undamaged. These are the hairs targeted for transplant.

Myth – Hair Transplants Provide Instant Results

Fact: Hair growth takes time for most (but not all( patients, the donor area must be shaved before the procedure and will take time to regrow on its own. Likewise, the newly transplanted hairs must first heal before they can begin to regrow on their own.

The timeline for full results varies from person-to-person; however, the first results are typically seen within 3-4 months, with final results being reached after 12-18 months depending on the desired outcome.

Myth – You Shouldn’t Travel Abroad For A Hair Transplant

Fact: Medical tourism is one of the most rapidly-growing sectors today. At the forefront of this movement are clinics in Turkey. Men and women worldwide travel to Turkey to receive a wide variety of surgical and cosmetic procedures. Medihair´s comparison of hair transplant clinics in Turkey will give you more options in selecting one of the best clinics found in the country.

The high quality and density of hair transplant surgeons in Turkey make it a global leader in hair transplant procedures. A hair transplant in Turkey can cost up to 90% less than in the UK, where prices can reach as high as £30,000.

The Dr. Serkan Aygin Clinic is one of the world’s premier hair-restoration centers. Located in Istanbul’s very heart, Dr. Serkan Aygin Clinic was awarded the Best Medical Tourism Facility by La Razon in Spain in 2019. In the same year, Dr. Serkan Aygin was himself presented with the European Award in Medicine in the field of Hair Transplant Surgery.
