I must be turning into a softie because I used to write about how much I thought Hello Kitty was spawned straight from Satan himself. But now, a few years later, that little kitty is starting to grow on me. When I saw these Hello Kitty baked buns, I knew I had to share them with you. These little cuties are being sold in Japan at a store called Sunkus.
Just like you’ll find with many types of pastries in that part of the world, there is a little hidden surprise inside each one of these baked buns. It’s of course pork, which is stuffed in there kind of like a hot dog. This particular one is seasoned with soy sauce and onions.
I’ve eaten baked buns similar to these before, and they are quite tasty. The red and white paper you see on the bottom of each baked bun is a little Hello Kitty quiz. It asks when Hello Kitty’s birthday is. Do you know? In these pictures, you can see the store where they are sold, and how they are displayed. Apparently they are going to be offered in more locations soon. I would like to make some of these myself. Instead of putting meat inside, I’d put some strawberry jam, Bavarian cream, Nutella or something else sweet.
If you love baked buns, I have a few other ones to show you too. This bird bread, in the form of buns, is the most adorable bread you’ll ever see. Seriously, who could eat that? There’s also the baked buns made to look like boobies. They were part of a breast cancer awareness promotion from last year. All this talk about baked buns and bread really has me craving some right now!
