How The Internet Affects Our Health [Infographic]

Have you ever thought about how the Internet affects your health? I’m not talking about in the ways you wouldn’t notice, but I’m referring to things that affect your daily life and important stuff like that. About a month ago, Richard wrote an article about The Mental Effects Of Facebook Addiction. It had some shocking information in it about how people who are addicted to Facebook (like really addicted) not only suffer from physical and mental breakdowns, but they also have a “10-20% smaller brain in the areas responsible for speech, memory, motor control, emotion, sensory and other information.”

I’ve often felt like I don’t fit in with the rest of the world since I’m not on Facebook all the time, but after learning about that, I’m glad. All that got me thinking about Internet addiction. Although I’m not a Facebook addict, I’m definitely an Internet addict. I’m plugged in at least 15 hours a day if not more. If having a Facebook addiction causes all that, I wonder how the Internet affects our overall health. We all know the wonderful ways the Internet enhances our lives, but are the negative aspects that we should be aware of too?

In my personal life, I’ve noticed that the Internet has hugely affected my relationships recently. Sometimes things on the Internet are not always as they seem, no matter how real it all feels. Many of the answers to these types of questions can be found in this fresh infographic called Is The Internet Bad For Your Health? (by insurance.com). The sources used to find this information are at the bottom of the infographic itself. The thing is, although this points out how the Internet affects health in negative ways, don’t forget how the Internet affects health in positive ways. It allows us to connect with our friends, and makes us giggle and smile all day long. It gives us hope and increases our awareness about important issues. There has to be positive health benefits from that. There are good and bad aspects to everything I suppose.
