Melting Chocolate Lamp Design Is Uniquely Bright & Tasty

I realize I just wrote an article a few hours ago about how important it is for geeks to remember to eat healthy since we spend so much time in front of the screen. Scratch everything I said in that article, and drool over this melting chocolate lamp instead. Mmm… This is so brilliant on so many levels, yet so simple and charming at the same time. You can’t eat the melting chocolate right away. You have to wait 15 minutes. Let me explain how this works.

This romantic lamp, designed by Alexander Lervik, is called the “Poetry of Light.” When you first turn it on, it is completely dark. Then, a few minutes later as the heat from the light starts to melt the chocolate, small holes start to appear and the light shines through. Alexander said, “It takes several minutes for the first rays of light to penetrate, mimicking light spreading along the horizon at sunrise.”

As more time goes on, more of the melting chocolate drips down into the bottom of the lamp, which doubles as a dish for the melting chocolate. After 15 minutes, the entire lamp is visible and illuminated, and all the chocolate is at the bottom ready for dipping your favorite yummies (like strawberries, graham crackers, marshmallows, etc.). It soon solidifies into chunks.

It’s no accident that the chocolate starts out in a pyramid shape. Alexander studied how chocolate melts, and from that, he determined that a pyramid shape would work best. At some point, I think these are going to go on sale, but I’m not sure. I hope they do! You can see the full effect in the video below. This would be perfect for any romantic dessert at home for two people who love chocolate. I wonder if it could come in white or dark chocolate too. Yum!
